Language of the Land:
How Words Cultivate Culture

For the first time in human history…
we are only one generation away from forgetting everything.

Where do we grow from here? We will find the way only if we listen…

The Early Seeds of this Book

When’s the last time you touched grass, really?

After a decade of doing groundbreaking work, I recognized I was severed from two foundational relationships — one with my family and one with the land. Only when I began to listen to both did my life change completely.

Language of the Land: How Words Cultivate Culture is a nature memoir & oral history of my journey and my family's history, legacy, and disconnection from the land and each other. However, by slowing down to consider the nature-based language we use when speaking, we can restore what is at risk to being lost to time and technology.

Language of the Land is the living bridge between past, present, and future. Between digital, built, and natural environments. By connecting land and language, Language shows us how human nature and nature are one and the same.

Who is this for?

  • A working professional who wants to spend more time outside rather than in front of a screen.

  • A generational bridge-builder looking to engage family members in a deeper, more authentic way.

  • The person who sees plants and nature more than food or “green space” but as something greater.

  • The family organizers who long for connection to their families and their roots, like back in the day.

  • An elder longing for the memories of their youth like snapping peas with their grandmother.

  • Those yearning to ensure that the values, experiences, and wisdom of your family are not just remembered, but honored and carried forward

Hi, I’m Ambar

I have always been drawn to the power of stories. As an urban planner, oral historian, and a memory-keeper, my work has helped reconnect communities across the country to their histories, their infrastructure, and the legacies that shape them.

But my love for oral history?

That began with my grandparents.

Sitting at their feet, listening to the stories of our lineage, I learned something profound—history isn’t just in books, it’s in us. The wisdom of our ancestors lives in our voices, our memories, and the way we choose to honor them. Yet, too often, these stories are left untold, scattered, or forgotten.

This is why I’m writing Language of the Land —a book where I weave my story with my family’s legacy to help us find our way back to the land and back to ourselves.

I believe memory work is more than preservation—it’s healing, connection, and reclamation.

I am honored to walk this journey with you.

And I can’t wait to meet you on this book journey.
